A potentially high-paced, exciting bantamweight bout between contenders Scott Jorgensen and Takeya Mizugaki has been officially announced for WEC 45: "Cerrone vs. Ratcliff" in December.
The bout was announced yesterday afternoon by WEC general manager Reed Harris on the promotion's official Twitter account and will likely earn the final main card spot on the event's televised portion of the card -- which airs on Versus.
Jorgensen (7-3) is coming off a win over Noah Thomas at WEC 43 and is now 3-1 in his last four fights. His only loss over that span came against Antonio Banuelos in his previous bout at WEC 41 in June. Jorgensen sports a 3-2 WEC record, with other wins coming over Kenji Osawa and Frank Gomez; while suffering his only other WEC loss against Damacio Page.
Prior to joining the WEC, Jorgensen competed for other notable promotions such as the now defunct EliteXC and the Denver based Ring of Fire. He holds a notable career win over highly touted prospect and recent WEC signee Tyler Toner.
Mizugaki was originally rumored to be facing Damacio Page at WEC 45, however, Page withdrew from the event for yet undisclosed reasons.
Mizugaki (12-3-2) most recently defeated hard nosed veteran Jeff Curran at WEC 42 in August. He previously made an impressive debut with the promotion by lasting five full rounds with then bantamweight champion Miguel Torres at WEC 40 in what has been dubbed a "Fight of the Year" candidate. Torres was awarded the unanimous decision win over Mizugaki at the April event.
WEC 45 is set for Dec. 19 at The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV. The event is headlined by a lightweight bout between Donald Cerrone and Ed Ratcliff.
In addition, former IFL star Chris Horodecki meets rising contender Anthony Njokuani in another lightweight feature and Joseph Benavidez will battle it out with submission ace Rani Yahya in a Bantamweight tilt.
