It seems like each day that passes brings a new injury to the now decimated UFC 108 card.
A lightweight bout between Sean Sherk and Jim Miller set for the main card of UFC 108 has been scratched from the event after Sherk suffered a cut over his right eye in training. The cut will require require numerous stitches.
News of Sherk's withdrawal from UFC 108 was first reported by The Northwest Indiana Times. Sherdog.com has since confirmed Sherk's injury with his manager, Monte Cox.
The luck surrounding UFC 108 has gotten so bad that even replacement fighters who step in for other guys who got injured are getting injured as well. Sherk was actually replacing Tyson Griffin, who was forced off of the card with an injury as well.
The UFC will be seeking a new opponent for Miller, which will be his third opponent after the aforementioned Griffin and Sherk.
Sherk also withdrew from the UFC 104 card in October with a shoulder injury. He was forced out of his scheduled lightweight bout against Gleison Tibau as a result.
Sherk (33-4-1) is 1-2 in his last three bouts, most recently suffering a unanimous decision loss against Frankie Edgar at UFC 98 in May. He sports a 7-4 record in 11 fights with the UFC, scoring impressive Octagon wins over the likes of Nick Diaz, Kenny Florian, Hermes Franca and Benji Radach.
Miller (15-2) recently defeated UFC newcomer Steve Lopez at UFC 103 in September. The win moved him Miller to 9-1 in his last 10 bouts, with his only loss over that stretch coming against Gray Maynard at UFC 96 in March.
UFC 108 takes place on Jan. 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV, and the event's main card will be televised live on pay-per-view. The event will be headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva.
