A lightweight bout between Sean Sherk and Clay Guida has been verbally agreed upon for UFC Fight Night 21 in March, according to The Times of Northwest Indiana.
UFC Fight Night 21 is tentatively set to take place on March 21 in Denver, CO, and its expected to be the first of two UFC events aired live on Versus. The event will likely be headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between Jon Jones and Brandon Vera.
Sherk (33-4-1) is 1-2 in his last three bouts, most recently suffering a unanimous decision loss against Frankie Edgar at UFC 98 in May. Sherk has not fought since the loss against Edgar in May, as he had been forced out of two events due to injury.
First, Sherk withdrew from his scheduled lightweight bout against Gleison Tibau at UFC 104 card in October due to a shoulder injury. Then, he was forced out of his bout against Jim Miller at last weekend's UFC 108 event after he suffered a deep cut over his right eye in training, which required numerous stitches.
Sherk sports a 7-4 record in 11 fights with the UFC, scoring impressive Octagon wins over the likes of Nick Diaz, Kenny Florian, Hermes Franca and Benji Radach; suffering other UFC losses to top names such as Matt Hughes, B.J. Penn and Georges St. Pierre.
Guida (25-11) has lost his last two bouts against Diego Sanchez at The Ultimate Fighter 9 finale in June, and most recently suffered a second-round submission loss to Kenny Florian at UFC 107 on Dec. 12. Prior to the losses, he was on a three-fight winning streak, scoring wins over Samy Schiavo, Mac Danzig and Nate Diaz.
Guida has put together an even 5-5 UFC record since debuting with the promotion in October 2006, scoring other notable Octagon wins over Justin James and Marcus Aurelio. He suffered his other UFC losses to Roger Huerta, Tyson Griffin and Din Thomas.
