Sengoku 9 will host the promotion's featherweight grand prix semifinals, which were recently revealed by tournament competitor Marlon Sandro in a report to Tatame.com. Sengoku 9 will take place on August 2 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
Marlon Sandro revealed that he drew UFC veteran Michihiro Omigawa and tournament favorite Hatsu Hioki will meet Masanori Kanehara in the other tournament bout.
Nova Uniao fighter Marlon Sandro (14-0) reached the tourney's semi-final by scoring an impressive submission win over Matt Jaggers at "Sengoku Seventh Battle" and then went on to defeat Nick Denis at "Sengoku Eighth Battle."
UFC veteran and tournament cinderella story Michihiro Omigawa, has been the underdog in both of his previous tournament bouts. Omigawa went on to upset IFL veteran L.C Davis in the first round and then pulled out a decision win over Nam Phan in the second.
Tournament favorite Hatsu Hioki, who is currently riding a 4-fight win streak, made his way to the semi-finals by notching a couple of submission wins over Ronnie Mann and Chris Manuel in previous rounds of the tournament.
Masanori Kanehara earned his spot among the three other tournament participants with a pair of unanimous decision wins over Chan Sung Jung and Jong Man Kim.
Sengoku lightweight champion Satoru Kitaoka (24-8-9) is scheduled to appear on the fight card as well. He's the only non-tournament fighter at the moment to be officially announced for the event. Kitaoka is currently riding a 5-fight win streak; with his last win coming over former top ranked lightweight Takanori Gomi in a title bout for the promotion's vacant lightweight strap back in January.
