World Victory Road's Sengoku Eighth Battle is officially over and what a night of fights it was. The event took place early Saturday morning at the National Yoyogi Stadium in Tokyo, Japan.
The event's headline saw tournament front-runner Hatsu Hioki scoring a convincing win over Ronnie Mann. Hioki dominated Mann as he ended the fight with a triangle choke submission.
Michihiro Omigawa beat Nam Phan with a controversial TKO stoppage late in the first round. Omigawa proved to be the tournament's Cinderella story as he was the underdog in both grand prix fights.
In other tournament action, Masanori Kanehara handed Chan Sung Jung his first loss in what was the entertaining fight of the night nominee. Nova Uniao fighter Marlon Sandro advanced to the semi-finals by knocking out Nick Denis.
In non-tournament action, lightweight prospect Maximo Blanco lost to Akihiko Mori via disqualification. Blanco knocked Mori down with a left hand and then he charged in with a soccer kick to finish his opponent, which is against Sengoku rules.
Well traveled MMA veteran, Travis Wiuff lost his second straight bout against undefeated light-heavyweight Stanislav Nedkov. The bout was marred by three groin shots delivered to Wiuff by Nedkov, which resulted in two red cards and two lost points.
Decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Alexandre Ribeiro "Xande" improved his MMA record to 2-0 with a win over Keiichiro Yamamiya. Ribeiro ended the fight via knockout and has yet to showcase his phenomenal Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
