"Without giving too much away I think you are going to see a knockout. We both hit harder than anyone can handle. It will come down to who lands that power shot first. In my opinion, it will be me. I am more explosive and faster now and equally as powerful (as before the surgery). I am a finisher and I dare any man to try to sustain through that. Letting me pound on you is a very low percentage path to victory in my opinion. I am a finisher and I will finish dos Santos if he crumbles." -Shane Carwin via BloodyElbow.com
Shane Carwin says he will not hesitate to lay it out on the line as he did against Brock Lesnar if he gets dos Santos in trouble when the two square off this Saturday in a heavyweight title eliminator fight. The winner of this fight has been all but guarenteed a shot at current UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.
Carwin (12-1) took heavy criticism after his fight against Brock Lesnar for "gassing out" while trying to finish Lesnar in the same way he's finished each of his other 13 professional fights - by the end of the first round. However, Lesnar, while hurt badly in the fights' first frame, was able to weather the storm and came back in the second round to choke out a clearly exhausted Carwin.
Carwin is said to have been working hard on his training and diet and has dropped over 15-pounds of weight after undergoing surgery to repair an ongoing back issue. He's expected to weigh-in up to 10 pounds lighter against dos Santos than he did in his last fight against Lesnar, and states that he's quicker and more explosive.
