Shane Carwin says he's in the best shape of his career as he prepares to fight Junior dos Santos at UFC 131 according to mmaweekly.com.
Carwin will be coming off of a nearly one year hiatus when he steps into the cage this Saturday, undergoing back and neck corrective surgeries during that layoff. It was due to these health issues that delayed Carwin's return to the octagon and plagued him during training. Now rid of these nagging concerns, Carwin has also implemented a new training regime and an organic diet that has the heavyweight weighing nearly 25 pounds lighter.
"It's done wonders for me. Honestly, it was probably the best thing that's happened to me; it's a lifelong change too" Carwin said on mmaweekly.com.
Carwin states that his signature knockout power is still there but with the weight lost, his explosiveness has reached new levels. Carwin took the fight with dos Santos on just a couple weeks notice after Brock Lesnar had to pull out due to a second case of diverticulitis.
Carwin and dos Santos will meet this Saturday at UFC 131 to determine who will fight the UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez.
