Shane Carwin vs. Cain Velasquez faces scheduling issues
by Jason Benfari on November 20, 2009

With UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar likely facing an extended recovery for an intestinal issue, talk has turned to potential interim title fights. However the fight which seems to make the most sence, a highly anticipated match-up between undefeated rising stars, Cain Velasquez and Shane Carwin, seems to be growing increasingly difficult to put together.

According to Carwin's manager Jason Genet, the undefeated heavyweight star has been in talks with the UFC about a Feb. 21, UFC 110 showdown, but the date represents a big issue.

"They're just trying to firm up some dates, but Shane and his wife are expecting a child in February, and we're trying to work around that," Genet told MMAJunkie.

The pregnancy is classified as "high risk" and Carwin would obviously be reluctant to take a fight at such a delicate time for his family. Nevertheless, Genet is hopeful that the contest will be worked out for early 2010 and believes that Carwin should be a part of any plans regarding an interim title fight.

"I just don't see how you could do interim heavyweight title and not have Shane be a part of it," he said. "He had earned a fight with the champion, so I think he's earned the right at an interim championship."

Storm: word was that Carwin had H1N1. he should be good by 108 and have had plenty time to train as well. D_V: put it in montreal with shogun/machida. it's only fair since they're denying us gsp.
