Lightweights Shane Nelson and Aaron Riley will likely fight each other again at UFC 101 on August 8th in Philadelphia. The bout will take place six months after the pair fought to a controversial stoppage during their first fight at UFC 96 in March.
In their first fight, Nelson dropped Riley early with a right hand and as Riley gained his composure and kicked up to defend himself once on the ground, referee Rick Fike rushed in to stop the action. UFC president Dana White has voiced his displeasure with the premature stoppage and he promised a rematch.
Prior to the UFC 96 bout, Aaron Riley defeated Jorge Gurgel at UFC 91 in November 2008; the bout earned "Fight of the night" honors. Riley, who is in his third stint with the UFC, sports a 27-11-1 MMA record and he has fought for such organizations as Pride, IFL and Bodog.
Nelson, who was a lightweight competitor on TUF season 8, is currently riding high on a 8-fight win streak and he trains under UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn. Before defeating Riley at UFC 96, Nelson defeated George Roop at the "Ultimate Fighter" 8 Finale in December.
