Shane Roller vs. Marcus Hicks slated for WEC 42
by Jacob Camargo on June 26, 2009

A lightweight bout between Shane Roller and Marcus Hicks has been added to the nearly complete WEC 42 fight card and will likely serve as the featured bout on the preliminary portion of the card. The news of the bout comes courtesy of MMAjunkie.com.

Shane Roller lost his last fight against fast-rising contender Benson Henderson at WEC 40 in April. Prior to the loss, Roller won five-straight, which included wins in his first two WEC fights against  Todd Moore and Mike Budnik. The three-time All-American wrestler from Oklahoma State University, Roller, is off to a 5-2 start in his young MMA career, with two wins by TKO and three by submission.

Marcus Hicks has lost two straight; one against WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner in a title bout at WEC 35 and most recently against former WEC lightweight champion Rob McCullough at WEC 39 in March. Prior to those losses, Hicks was unbeaten in his first 8 MMA bouts, with notable wins over the likes of Ed Ratcliff, Sergio Gomez and Scott McAfee.

WEC 42 takes place on August 9 from The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and the main card will be televised live on Versus. The event's headliner will be a bantamweight title fight between current champ Miguel Torres and top contender Brian Bowles. In the co-featured bout, Jeff Curran will look to snap his three-fight losing streak against the very tough Takeya Mizugaki.
