Shinya Aoki set to face Lyle Beerbohm at April 9th Strikeforce event
by Tim Groves on March 07, 2011

Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley is shaping up to be quite the card for the surging promotion.

Lightweights Shinya Aoki (26-5) and Lyle Beerbohm (16-1) have agreed to meet at the event on April 9th, according to MMA-Japan.com.

The polarizing Jiu-Jitsu ace has reeled off three consecutive victories in mixed martial arts since his Strikeforce title loss to Gilbert Melendez. However, Aoki is coming off of an embarrasing defeat during a K-1/MMA rules bout against Yuichirio Nagashima at Dynamite!! 2010

The first round, consisting of K-1 rules, saw Aoki constantly clinching and repeatedly falling down in order to run out the clock. Many fans believed that if Aoki could survive until the MMA round, he would be able to get Nagashima down and submit him with ease. At the start of the MMA round, Aoki was hit with a flying knee and was subsequently knocked out with brutal hammerfists from Nagashima. As a result of the startling upset, rumors quickly spread that Aoki was retiring from MMA all together.

Lyle Beerbohm will enter the cage for the first time since his first career loss to Pat Healy at Strikeforce: Challengers 14. The promising lightweight had been on a 16 fight tear and was nearing title contention under the Strikeforce banner. The Washington native will look to return to his winning ways when he faces Aoki on April 9th.

Strikforce: Diaz vs. Daley will be headlined by a welterweight title bout and a lightweight title fight. Nick Diaz will put his 170 pound belt on the line against British slugger Paul Daley, while lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez will look to continue his winning ways when he takes on Tatsuya Kawajiri.

He showed no respect for his opponent during the K1 rules match and didn't even respect him enough to set up the take down. He got what he deserved and he had one of the worst displays of sportsmanship ever displayed in MMA. Infact I put what he did as worse then the Daley sucker punch of Brockgate. He literally broke a guys arm and flipped him off after it then started flipping of the crowd while yelling obscenities. In short, I could care less about him or anything he does in MMA from this point on. And a person with an incomplete game and disrespects his opponents doesn't deserve being mentioned as a top 5 or top 10 LW for that matter. snuff: Aoki = meh
