Shogun: "A rematch with Jon Jones is a goal of mine"
by Hubert Lau on August 30, 2011

UFC light heavyweight, Mauricio Rua, voices his desires to rematch Jon Jones in the near future according to fightersonlymagazine.co.uk.

Rua, more famously known as Shogun, is at the heels of dominant TKO dismantling of Forrest Griffin at UFC 134 which also avenged his previous loss to Griffin at UFC 76. Rua now seeks to settle another score with the man that took his belt, Jones.

"A rematch with Jon Jones is a goal of mine. Of the five losses in my career, I have won three rematches. Only one of them won't happen, which is the loss against Babalu because today he's part of the team (Kings MMA), so this fight won't happen," Shogun said.

His recent win over Griffin didn't just avenge a defeat but as UFC president, Dana White, points out, it also puts Shogun back in the picture for title contention.

"It was a big win for him. Shogun just lost the title to Jon Jones...then beats Forrest Griffin, who's one of the top light heavyweights in the world. It puts ‘Shogun' right back in the title hunt...There is no doubt that Shogun is one of the best in the world. He is probably two fights away from being considered again," White said.

Currently Shogun is unscheduled for future UFC events, his next opponent unknown. Jones is set to defend his title for the first time against heavy underdog Quinton Jackson on September 24 at UFC 135.

Cryptic_Soldier: Thirded mike5k: I'd really like to see Shogun get another shot at Jones. The first fight was obviously a one-sided beating and I don't think Shogun would win but I think he could make it more competitive than it was. If Rampage loses to Jones and doesn't retire, Shogun vs Rampage would be nice then if Evans loses to Jones and Shogun beats Rampage the Evans could be his next fight before the title shot. illegalpoke: Give 'em Phil. He beats Phil Davis. Instant title shot. Lay'n'PrayNINJA: Phil Davis would be a VERY intriguing fight to me, and a great warm up for Shogun if he wants a rematch with Jones. Phil is like "Bones Light" :D TGroves: Yes please to Shogun vs. Jones 2. I don't care what he says, I doubt he was 100% coming off of that layoff and knee surgery. I think he can do A LOT better. Especially if he doesn't get hit with a flying knee that would knock out most light heavyweights right as the fight begins. I think that took A TON out of Shogun. Cryptic_Soldier: I dont think Shogun V Nog2 woud be very competitive. I want to see Shogun VS Page, Machida, Randy (i know he retired), Davis, Tito (to see him get ktfo'd out the UFC), and maybe 1-2 others.. thug4less: Am I the only one that thinks the next fight will still end up with Jones beating Shogun in convincing fashion? Like, maybe not as one-sided and it could go longer than two rounds... but still... GO HARD: i think shogun has a great chance.......... against anyone but Bones.
