"I don't want to face him because I felt I won. I want to fight Lyoto because it's for the title, and that is my dream. What I want most is that belt and, therefore, I want to fight Lyoto again. I leave the details of my fight and opponent in the hands of my manager. My only concern is training. But of course I want to fight Lyoto as soon as possible." -Mauricio "Shogun" Rua
UFC light-heavyweight star Mauricio "Shogun" Rua tells GracieMag.com that he's not interested in fighting for vengeance, instead choosing to focus on his ultimate goal -- the UFC light-heavyweight title.
Rua (18-4) was once considered to be the greatest light-heavyweight fighter in the world. The former Pride champion dominated Pride's light-heavyweight division from 2002 until Pride's demise in 2007 after which he was signed by the UFC.
Rua suffered various injuries over the next couple of years along with a loss in his UFC debut to Forrest Griffin at UFC 76. He seemed to get back to his athletic, explosive former self in a thrilling knockout over former UFC light-heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell before suffering a highly controversial decision loss to currently UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida last month at UFC 104.
The loss was roundly criticized by the fans in attendance who boo'd when the decision was read. UFC officials scrambled to put a rematch together for UFC 108 in January, but had to defer to May 1 due to a hand injury Machida suffered before the fight.
