Short lived fireworks: "Cyborg" Santos forced out of bout with Paul Daley
by Tim Groves on June 24, 2011

Evangelista Santos has been forced from his bout with Paul Daley at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson, according to MMAPrime.tv.  The news has also been confirmed by MMAFighting.com.

"Cyborg" Santos injured his shoulder while training for the welterweight showdown, which had just recently been announced. The two were set to fight on July 30 in Chicago, Illinois. The two fighters were the last two challengers to Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz. With Diaz headed to the UFC to take on Georges St. Pierre many speculated that this bout would be for the vacated welterweight strap.

No replacement had been found, but Strikeforce officials were actively seeking a suitable substitute for Santos.

 |  (17) Comments GO HARD: Woodley and Daley should be fighting for the WW belt anyways. JujitsWho: T-Wood!!!!!! That kid is gonna be impressive. Me and Arlov have been on his nuts for a long time now. Hizoka: With Diaz vacating the Strikeforce Belt it basically makes the belt have as much value a a WWE champ belt... None of them could beat Diaz so who ever gets it now will just be basically a paper champion.. Oh well eventually (my guess within 2 years) Strikeforce will be gone SicJits: Again Daley? One fighter in particular, and a key figure in BAMMA’s plans, Paul Daley, came in at 176 pounds for his welterweight fight with Jordan Radev. Being a non-title affair, he could have come in at 171 pounds, but as it was, he was five pounds over the contracted weight. Shortly after the weigh-ins, Daley took to his Facebook page to post, “Fights off, weigh in off. It’s not happening. Sorry all. I’m done.” MMAWeekly.com has since learned, however, that despite the initial debacle, BAMMA negotiated with both camps and a resolution, if reluctantly, was reached. Despite being given two hours to drop the weight, Daley reportedly refused. But while Radev’s camp was initially hesitant, Radev eventually decided that he would accept a catchweight fight with Daley at 176 pounds, despite the Brit’s history of missing weight. Hizoka: damn thought she was gonna whoop Daley too... Giada Esposito: Shoot, she would have kicked his butt. That's a pretty good pic of her though, she is looking less butch these days. Lay'n'PrayNINJA: Daley is a joke. How many times is he going to miss weight? That said I heard that the sauna at the event location(or the hotel or something) was truly broken, and a few fighters were having trouble because of that... Wandering_Minstrel: Sounds to me like Daley needs to hook up with Mike Dolce and get his weight under control. SicJits: Ihope Daley"the weight misser" losses! TGroves: He basically just doesn't care when he isn't fighting in the UFC or Strikeforce.
