Spike TV will air UFC 108 prelims
by Natalia Baage on December 12, 2009

After taking a hiatus for UFC 107, the free prelims on Spike TV are back next month for UFC 108.

Ringing in the New Year, UFC 108 will take place on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas, NV, with the headlining bout of Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva.

While the official word has not yet been sent out, MMAJunkie.com reported the story first. The UFC is still in the process of figuring out which fights to air during the hour-long show.

UFC 108 will mark the fourth time that the UFC has agreed to show the prelims like on Spike. However, UFC President Dana White has said that the prelim show will not become a regular broadcast. Instead, the organization and Spike TV will decided on a case-by-case basis.Saturday night's airing of UFC 106's prelim fights scored 1.3 million viewers.

UFCs 103, 104 and 106 had been given their own prelim show. The more recent event, UFC 106, earned 1.3 million viewers, while UFCs 103 and 104 each earned 2.4 million. UFC 105 was featured in its entirety on a Spike TV. And the UFC 107 prelims are being preempted by the Spike Video Game Awards, which had long ago taken the evening time slot.
