UFC heavyweight, Stefan Struve, declares that he is not afraid to stand and trade with Pat Barry according to mmamania.com.
"I'm not afraid to engage in a kickboxing battle with him, but we both know our strengths. He's a great fighter on his feet, but his ground game is not so good. His wrestling is getting better, obviously, because he's training with Brock Lesnar's team, but he's still not a wrestler in origin, he's a kickboxer," Struve said.
Struve and Barry are set to battle at UFC Live: Cruz vs. Johnson on October 1. Both men have had kickboxing careers, four undefeated bouts for Struve compared to an 18-6 record for Barry. Should the two engage in a stand up war, Struve will hold a nine inch reach advantage and his staggering height of six foot eleven should pose some problems for Barry.
Both men will be looking to rebound from losses, Struve suffered a KO defeat at the hands of Travis Browne at UFC 130 and Barry was on the receiving end of a come-from-behind KO from Cheick Kongo at UFC on Versus 5.
"I think I can drag him to the ground and impose my will on him from there, but I'm not afraid to strike with him as well. I may have gotten caught in my last fight (against Travis Browne), but up until then the fight was easy for me. I was feeling lazy, using my reach and when I got him to the ground I almost submitted him, but I made a little mistake and was able to defend himself. It happened and I learned from it and now I feel really confident and good for this Saturday, so we'll see," Struve said.
Of Struve's 21 wins in MMA, 14 have come via submission and Barry has been susceptible to the ground game as two of his three defeats come from tapout.
UFC Live: Cruz vs. Johnson is headlined by a bantamweight title bout pitting champion Dominick Cruz defending against challenger, Demetrious Johnson. Also on the main card is a lightweight rematch between Matt Wiman and Mac Danzig. A welterweight tilt between Anthony Johnson and Charlie Brenneman also scheduled.
