"I just want to make him fight really hard and take it to him. Just get to him. Keep pressure on him and make it a busy, gritty fight. That's how I fight the best. I want to be first, I want to get off. I don't want him to do his game, play the way he wants. I want to make him fight my fight. I feel comfortable on the ground. I can submit him there, but I want to keep pressure on him standing up and get him there." -Stephan Bonnar
Stephan Bonnar is looking to use his Golden Gloves boxing credentials to try to dominate the standup and outstrike Krzysztof Soszynski. The two men will meet in Sydney this weekend in a fight that is sure to have added urgency as both men are coming off of losses.
Bonnar (11-6) is looking to get his UFC career back on track after a two-fight losing streak which caps a disappointing run stretching back to 2006 that has seen the UFC icon go 2-4 with the organization.
Bonnar got off to a fine start in the UFC, with an epic battle against Forrest Griffin on the "Ultimate Fighter" season 1 finale. The fight helped propel the UFC to mainstream success and was voted by fans as the best fight in UFC history. Although Bonnar came out on the losing end of the decision in that fight, he followed it up with three straight victories, and didn't stumble again until a majority decision loss to Rashad Evans at Ultimate Fight Night 5 which began his current slump.
Bonnar has always shown a big heart and a lot of toughness, and has only been stopped once, when he was cut by Lyoto Machida at Jungle Fight 1 early in his career. He will be facing a rugged and experienced veteran in Soszynski (18-9-1) who had been on a six-fight winning streak until he lost to Brandon Vera last year at UFC 102.
