With four days until UFC 108, the organization more than likely was sure that they had a finalized card.
However, the unluckiest card in UFC history has been dealt another blow, as a light-heavyweight bout between Steve Cantwell and Vladimir Matyushenko has been scrapped from the event after Cantwell was forced to withdraw due to undisclosed reasons.
Matyushenko revealed the news to MMAWeekly.com earlier today. According to the report, the UFC has told Matyushenko that they are going to try to find a replacement, and that he should continue his preparations to make weight for Friday's weigh ins.
Cantwell (7-3) opened his UFC career in impressive fashion by scoring a first-round submission win over Razak Al-Hassan in his Octagon debut in December 2008. He is now fighting to keep his job with the UFC, as he has since lost back-to-back fights against Luiz Cane and, most recently, Brian Stann in their third match up at UFC Fight Night 19 in September.
Matyushenko (23-4) is 10-1 in his last 11 bouts, most recently picking up his second straight win by defeating UFC newcomer Igor Pokrajac in his Octagon return at UFC 103 in September.
UFC 108 takes place on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas, NV, and is headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between former champion Rashad Evans and contender Thiago Silva.
