Strikeforce Challengers: "Woodley vs. Bears" is officially in the books and it turned out to be an exciting night of fights as well as a night of finishes. Headliner Tyron Woodley, as well as Kerry Vera, Rafael Cavalcante and Kevin Casey, were among those who came out victorious.

The fifth challengers series event took place last night, Nov. 20, at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS, and the main card aired live on Showtime.

In the main event of the evening, fast-rising welterweight prospect Tyron Woodley scored a first round submission win over local veteran Rudy Bears. Both men opened up the round on the feet, where Woodley looked comfortable but eventually chose to close the distance and quickly and powerfully took Bears down. Woodley then moved into the full mount position, however, Bears scrambled back to his feet without taking any damage. From there, Woodley worked in some knees in the clinch and Bears snapped off an impressive high kick, but it appeared to be blocked. Woodley took him down again, where he quickly transitioned to half guard, locked in an arm-triangle choke and promptly moved to side control forcing Bears to tap.

The win moved Woodley to 3-0 under the Strikeforce banner. He now sports a 6-0 overall MMA record with all his wins being by submission. The loss snapped a six-fight winning streak Bears had put together prior to the contest.

In the co-main event, Brandon Vera's wife, Kerry, notched an impressive first round TKO win over Randy Couture's former wife, Kim Couture. Couture opened up by landing a right, which Vera countered with a flurry, which included a knee early. Another knee landed hard from Vera before Couture answered with a solid jab. Vera then opened up more on Couture with numerous solid shots. Couture didn't give up however, as she landed a right hand and continued to utilize her jab. Vera then landed a big hook on Couture and the two ended up in the clench near the fence. Vera unloaded on Couture from here up against the cage, clearly rocking her a couple times. Couture showed some real toughness, but as the assault continued she finally collapsed to the floor and the bout was stopped at 3:35 of the first round.

With the win Vera moves her MMA record to 2-0 and Couture falls to 1-2.

Other results from main card action include an electrifying, back-and-forth welterweight bout between Bobby Voelker and Erik Apple, which saw Voelker come from behind and pick up a second round TKO win. Also, Brazilian prospect Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante got back on the winning track as he scored a second-round TKO win over fellow prospect Aaron Rosa.

In addition, Middleweight Kevin Casey defeated former two-time NCAA Division III wrestling champion Chad Vance via first round submission in the evening's broadcast-opening bout.
