Strikeforce: "Shamrock vs. Diaz" is officially in the books and what a exciting night of fights it turned out to be. Saturday's Showtime-televised Strikeforce event drew 15,211 spectators at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

In the main event of the night, UFC and Elitexc veteran Nick Diaz defeated MMA legend Frank Shamrock by second round TKO. Shamrock, who was coming off more then a year layoff, just couldn't get inside of Diaz's reach and find his range. Diaz, who was originally a lightweight who moved up for the 179-pound catch-weight fight, got the better of his opponent on the ground and standing.

In the co-feature, Gilbert Melendez proved why he is truly a top-ten ranked lightweight as he defeated late replacement Rodrigo Damm to capture the Strikeforce interim lightweight championship. Melendez was orginally suppose to rematch Strikeforce lightweight champ Josh Thomson at tonight's event, however, Thomson was forced to bow out of the bout with a broken leg. Melendez looked determined and dominant in the win and now he will look forward to a future title-unification bout with Thomson.

In the other main card bouts, middleweights Scott Smith and Benji Radach fought in what was a very entertaining slugfest and fight of the night candidate. Smith overcame the odds and scored a come from behind victory over Radach. In the evening's lone female bout, Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos, who failed to make weight for the bout, defeated Hitomi Akano. Former elitexc heavyweight Brett Rogers opened up the showtime telecast by defeating BET "Iron Ring" competitor Ron "Abongo" Humphrey.
