Strikeforce heavyweight, Brett Rogers, was arrested and charged with third degree assault according to bloodyelbow.com.
Rogers was reported to have been involved in a domestic altercation with his wife during the early hours of Wednesday, June 30.
A heated argument led to Rodgers strangling his wife until she passed out. Other injuries include a golf ball sized wound on her face, smaller wounds throughout her body and losing a tooth in the struggle. Rodgers admitted to have been drinking alcohol before the argument.
In addition to the third degree assault charge, the 30 year old Rogers is also facing endangerment of a child since his nine year old daughter was present during the altercation. The latter would constitute as a gross misdemeanor while his other charges, assault in the third degree, domestic assault by strangulation and pattern of stalking conduct, are all felonies within Dakota County, Minnesota where Rodgers resides.
If convicted, Rogers can face up to five years in jail with an additional fine of $10,000.
Rogers arrived in court on Thursday for the first time, being held at a $100,000 bail, and is due back in court on Friday.
Rogers' most recent MMA bout was a submission loss to Josh Barnett at the quarterfinals of Strikerforce's heavyweight grand prix tournament earlier this month.
