Strikeforce middleweight champion and rising star Gegard Mousasi today confirmed heavy rumors that he'll be participating on Strikeforce's first CBS card on Nov. 7 in Chicago, IL. The Dutch fighter confirmed the news with M-1 Global.
Mousasi (26-2-1) is coming off a thrilling first-round KO victory over Babalu Sobral at Strikeforce: "Carano vs. Cyborg" back in August and has won his past 13 fights dating back to 2006. Mousasi, who trains with world consensus number one heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko, holds notable career wins over Hector Lombard, Evangelista Santos, Denis Kang, Melvin Manhoef, Ronaldo Souza, Mark Hunt and the aforementioned Sobral.
Although an opponent has yet to be officially named, former WEC middleweight champion Paulo Filho has openly requested the fight. Another possible opponent according to M-1 Global, is Dream veteran Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.html">Sokoudjou, who recently defeated Bob Sapp.
Fiveknuckles.com recently reported the addition of several exciting fights to the card including; Mark Miller vs Deray Davis and Christian Uflacker vs Jonatas Novaes. A heavyweight battle between highly touted MMA prospect Bobby Lashley and UFC veteran Ron Waterman is also a longshot possibility for the card.
The event will be headlined by a highly anticipated heavyweight battle between Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers and will also feature a middleweight interm title fight between Jake Shields and Mayhem Miller. Female fighter Cyborg Santos is also expected to participate on the stacked card which takes place on Nov. 7 at the 11,000 seat capacity Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, IL.
