Strikeforce has ended veteran middleweight Matt Lindland's brief free agency period by signing him to a three fight contract. News of the signing comes via MMAWeekly.com.
Following Affliction's fight promotion demise, Lindland's contract was was one of the few not transferred to the UFC. According to the report, Lindland will be looking to debut with Strikeforce in October against possible opponents Jake Shields, Robbie Lawler or Cung Le. The middleweight bout between Lindland and Shields was originally proposed for Strikeforce's August 15 event but never materialized.
Lindland is 1-2 in his last three fights and he hasn't fought since losing to Vitor Belfort at Affliction: "Day of Reckoning" in January. He defeated Fabio Nascimento at Afflcition's first event last July and was beaten by Fedor Emelianenko Bodog Fight: "Clash of the Nations" in April 2007.

He has fought for other promotions in his career such as Cage Rage, IFL, Rumble on the Rock and Bodog Fight. Lindland has earned stoppage victories in 14 of his 21 career wins and holds notable wins over the likes of Ricardo Almeida, Carlos Newton, Phil Baroni(2x), Pat Miletich, Falaniko Vitale, Travis Lutter and Jeremy Horn.
