Tatsuya Kawajiri debuts at featherweight against Joachim Hansen at DREAM 17
by Hubert Lau on August 04, 2011

Tatsuya Kawajiri is set to make his featherweight debut against Joachim Hansen at Dream 17 according to bloodyelbow.com.

Kawajiri (28-7-2) has long been considered one of the sport's top lightweights. Kawajiri recently rebounded from his loss to Gilbert Melendez to defeat Drew Fickett at Dream Fight for Japan 2 via TKO in the opening round. After unsuccessful runs at the Strikeforce and Dream lightweight belts, Kawajiri will now pursue featherweight gold.

Opposing Kawajiri at his featherweight debut is Hansen (22-10-1). "Hellboy" is riding a three fight win streak and is Dream's one time lightweight champion.

Their bout will actually be a rematch; their first meeting in 2006 ended in a disqualification win for Kawajiri when he was on the receiving end of an accidental groin kick.

Other bouts for Dream 17 include Shinya Aoki vs. Rob McCullough, Takeshi Inoue vs. Caol Uno and Willamy Freire vs. Satoru Kitaoka.

Dream 17 is held on September 24 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
