Four fighters waked away with an extra $55,000 after their performances at UFC Fight Night 24. Chan Sung Jung, Johny Hendricks, Michael McDonald and Edwin Figueroa all walked away with a hefty bonus, according to MMAJunkie.com.
Chan Sung Jung was the recipient of the Submission of the Night bonus for his twister against Leonard Garcia. Sung Jung locked in the rare move with the clock ticking down in the second round. Garcia eventually tapped to the move with a mere one second remaining in the frame. Sung Jung later revealed that he learned the move by watching Eddie Bravo movies on YouTube.
Johny Hendricks, who was apart of one of the three unaired fights, walked away with the Knockout of the Night bonus after stopping T.J. Waldburger in under two minutes. Hendricks was able to land two solid lefts in a row, knocking Waldburger down and sending the referee sprinting to halt the action.
Two bantamweights, Michael McDonald and Edwin Figueroa, each earned $55k for their fight of the night. The two spent the majority of the first round swinging for the fences against each other, giving the fans an exciting striking display. During the second round, McDonald attempted submission after submission from his back but was unable to put away the durable Figueroa. McDonald had multiple triangles and armbars seemingly locked up but Figueroa would not tap. In the end, McDonald walked away with an unanimous decision.
The $55,000 was a record amount given away for a Fight Night card.
