A bit of UFC news perhaps overshadowed by the Brock Lesnar hoopla over the past week was that the promotion recently signed one of the youngest and brightest heavyweight prospects in the sport in 23-year-old Chad Corvin.
Corvin announced his UFC signing to ProMMA.info:
"It’s an honor. It’s what everybody hopes for in our line of work, like a minor league baseball player being called up to the majors. I’d like to match up with somebody in the same position as me, new in the UFC, new to the program, and just work my way up. I’m at the bottom right now, so I’ll start at the bottom and go up. It came as a surprise. I was on YouTube and put my name in [the search box] so I could watch one of my fight videos and I saw something new (The Ultimate Fighter Alternate Heavyweights Part 1 mentioned above) and saw I was number one on the list. Josh [Johnson] contacted me a few days later and told me there were a couple contract offers. It was a big surprise because I’m just an average guy working for a living."
Corvin has put together a 6-0 MMA record since making his pro debut in March 2007, with all six of the wins coming via first-round stoppage (4 KO/TKO's). In fact, no opponent has lasted as much as 2 minutes in the cage with the 6'5", 250-pound budding prospect.
Corvin is a veteran of Kentucky's Warrior Fighting Challenge, and the Florida-based Xtreme Fighting Championships. He hasn't fought since defeating Scott Barrett at XFC 7: "School of Hard Knox" last February.
Other interesting tidbits to pass along about Corvin is that he fights out of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and trains with Etown Beatdown.
