Dana White's wish has finally come true. The UFC has a date for a Boston event: Aug. 28, 2010. East-coasters can rejoice.
When Massachusetts legalized MMA event in November, White jumped at the chance to get an event planned in his hometown. The Bostonian had previously said that he wanted to do a summer event - and now he has his wish.
While the event is not official yet, as it is still eight months away, White told the Boston Herald that the UFC will host an event at the TD Garden. In addition, the UFC president is looking to include fighters from the state, like lightweight star Kenny Florian, and other fighters from the north-east, like welterweight stalwart Marcus Davis, who is from Maine.
Last month, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick signed a bill that will change the State Boxing Commission into the State Athletic Commission so that it can oversee mixed martial arts events, instead of the standard boxing matches.
New York has been trying to get MMA events legalized in its state for quite some time now, but has been unable to follow in Massachusetts' footsteps. However, White has said that he is looking to do an event at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
