“The winner’s still going to be top tier in the world and looking for a title fight, and fighting contenders, and the loser’s definitely going to drop off…. It’s just another fight, man. I’m fighting a really tough guy, a top-rated guy. I’m just in it for the fight, man. I don’t care about all that other stuff…. More than anything, not too many people have been fighting the quality of people that I’ve been fighting from fight to fight. And I have had a few holes in my game, and I feel like I’ve been improving. I think I’ve fixed a lot of those holes…. It’s a new and improved me, and it’s the start of a run for me to the top of the UFC. That’s the way I’m looking at it…. I’ve never been in a boring fight. It’s going to be another really exciting fight. … Fight of the Night-caliber fight.”
-UFC light-heavyweight contender Keith Jardine (14-5-1) talks to USA Today about the high level of opponents he's faced during his tenure with the UFC, the improvements he's made and his upcoming bout at UFC 102. Jardine's inconsistency over the last couple of years has plagued his shot at a little. He's followed up big wins with tough losses and vice versa. The TUF 2 alum is coming off a close split decision loss to Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 96 in March.
Jardine, has put together a 6-4 record in the UFC, earning big wins over Mike Whitehead, Wilson Gouveia, Forrest Griffin, Brandon Vera and Chuck Liddell, but he's also dropped fights to Stephan Bonnar, Houston Alexander and Wanderlei Silva.
The Jackson's Submission Fighting product will once again look to climb up the ladder in the light-heavyweight division when he faces Thiago Silva at Saturday's UFC 102 event from the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Oregon. Silva suffered his first career loss in his last bout, getting dropped in the first round by current UFC light-heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida at UFC 94 in January.
