Light-heavyweights Thiago Silva and Tim Boetsch have verbally agreed to meet at UFC 117 this August in a bout that will likely be featured on the televised main portion of the card. News of the bout was first reported by Sherdog.com.
Though not officially announced, UFC 117 is expected take place on August 7 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California and will likely be headlined by a UFC middleweight title bout between current champion Anderson Silva and outspoken challenger Chael Sonnen.
Silva (14-2) is 1-2 in his last three bouts, suffering losses to current UFC light-heavyweight Lyoto Machida and most recently Rashad Evans in the main event match up at UFC 108 in January. His lone bright spot over that span came against Keith Jardine at UFC 102 last August.
Silva sports a solid 5-2 UFC record, scoring wins in his first four UFC contests over James Irvin, Tomasz Drwal, Houston Alexander and Antonio Mendes. He has been competing professionally for nearly five years, fighting for other notable promotions such as Fury Fighting Championship, Shooto and Pancrese. The American Top Team fighter has finished all but one of his 14 career wins, including 11 by TKO or KO.
Boetsch (11-3) returns to the UFC after being released from the promotion in June 2009. During his time away from the UFC, he has put together a three-fight winning streak, most recently defeating Reese Shaner via first round knockout at a North American Fighting Championship event on April 3.
Boetsch put together an even 2-2 Octagon record in his first go around with the UFC, scoring wins over David Heath and Mike Patt, while suffering UFC losses to Matt Hamill and Jason Brilz. He is a veteran of other notable promotions such as King of the Cage, Extreme Challenge, Reality Fighting, and the IFL. Boetsch has finished all of his 11 career including six by TKO or KO and five by submission.
