Thiago Tavares was scheduled to face Melvin Guillard "The Young Assassin" at the Ultimate Fighter Finale 9 in Las Vegas, Nevada. While training, Tavares hyper-extended his elbow.
Tavares is coming off a win over Manny Gamburyan and would have loved to make it two-in-a-row against a powerful Guillard. Tavares hasn't won two in a row since 2007 against opponents Naoyuki Kotani and Jason Black.
Gleison Tibau has stepped up to replace Tavares for the September UFC event. Guillard is coming off two-straight wins and hopes to make Tibau his third. His most recent wins come from opponents Eric Regan and Denis Siver in 2008.
