With its 'Sengoku Ninth Battle' event in the books, World Victory Road turns its attention to filling its next event announcing the participation of a two of Olympic Judoka's and their lightweight grand prix runner-up for it's next event, Sengoku 10.
2008 Sengoku lightweight grand prix runner-up Kazunori Yokota, 2004 Olympic Judo silver medalist Hiroshi Izumi and 2000 Olympic Judo gold medalist Makoto Takimoto were officially added to the event's fight card, with opponents set to be named shortly.
The three men join the list of previously announced fighters set to compete at Sengoku 10, which include former EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio Silva, former IFL lightweight champion Ryan Schultz and UFC veteran Joe Doerksen.
Izumi (0-0) signed with the promotion last month and will be making his official MMA debut at the event likely as a light-heavyweight. He is a highly decorated Judoka with an Olympic silver medal in judo at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games and gold medals at the 2005 World Judo Championship Games and the 2008 Asian Championships.
Takimoto (5-5) is coming off a win over Michael Costa at Sengoku 8 in May. Prior to the win, he had lost two straight against Evangelista Santos and Frank Trigg. Takimoto is also a talented Judoka as evidenced by his 2000 Olympic Judo Gold Medal. He holds notable wins over the likes of Zelg Galesic, Murilo Bustamante.
Yokota (9-2-3) was also victorious at May's Sengoku 8 defeating jiu-jistu stud Leonardo Santos at the event. Prior to the win, he lost in the finale of the promotion's 2008 lightweight grand prix against Satoru Kitaoka at Sengoku Sixth Battle last November. The longtime Deep veteran sports notable career wins over UFC veteran Michihiro Omigawa and current Sengoku lightweight champion Mizuto Hirota.
Sengoku 10 takes place on September 23 from the Saitama Community Arena in Saitama, Japan and will be televised in North American on HDNET.
