Tim Sylvia Set To Box Ray Mercer; Possible Affliction Fight To Follow
by Jacob Camargo on February 27, 2009

Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia will face Ray Mercer in the main event of Adrenaline MMA III . The fight was first pitched as an MMA fight but later changed to a boxing contest. This event will not be broadcast on HDNET.

This will be the first action for Tim Sylvia since a July 2008 loss to Fedor Emelianenko. Meanwhile, Mercer (36-7-1 Boxing) last fought in a majority decision win over Richel Hersisia (30-2 boxing).

Mercer fought Wladimir Klitschko for the WBO heavyweight title in 2002 and lost via sixth-round TKO. Mercer is best known to MMA fans for his June 2007 submission loss in an exhibition bout with Kevin " Kimbo Slice" Ferguson.

Tim Sylvia is rumored to return to MMA at the next Affliction event against Paul Buentello.
