Former two-time UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia was able to notch another victory, defeating Mariusz Pudzianowski via submission due to strikes at Friday's Moosin pay-per-view event in Worcester, Mass.
Sylvia controlled the pace of the fight from the start, utilizing a mix of stand up superiority and ground attack on a visibly tired Pudzianowski. He eventually opened up a cut on the head of the former five-time World's Strongest Man at the end of the first round.
Sylvia carried the momentum into the second round, taking Pudzianowski down and landing a barrage of punches, forcing a submission at 1:43 of the second round, and disappointing the seemingly pro-Pudzianowski crowd.
For Sylvia, the victory improves his record to 26-6 overall.
Despite the victory, Sylvia still garnered some criticism for coming into the fight at over 300 pounds. The win, however, may push those criticisms to the side, and possibly eliminate some of the negative stigma surrounding Sylvia's knockout loss at the hands of Ray Mercer last June.
For Pudzianowski, the loss was the first of his young career, as he fell to 2-1.
