Tito Ortiz vs. Mark Coleman set for UFC 106
by Jacob Camargo on August 18, 2009

The long rumored light-heavyweight bout between Tito Ortiz and Mark Coleman now appears to be set for UFC 106 on November 21 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

News of the bout confirmation was first reported by Fighters Only Magaine and confirmed by Mike Disabato, who is the founder of MMA Authentics and friend of Coleman, today via his Twitter account. The UFC has yet to officially announce the match up.

Ortiz is coming off major spinal fusion surgery to correct a back problem that has bothered him for several years. He signed with the UFC last month to big fanfare at an announcement made during a recent UFC conference call following the demise of Affliction.

The signing signaled an end of a long running feud between UFC President Dana White and Ortiz with both men declaring a truce. White has mentioned a possible Ortiz-Coleman fight on several occasions since the conference call.

Ortiz will be looking to pick up his first win since October 2006, where he defeated Ken Shamrock for the third time. Since that Victory he has gone 0-2-1, losing to Chuck Liddell, drawing with Rashad Evans and most recently, losing to current UFC light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida at UFC 84 last May. All but one of Ortiz's 22 career fights have come with the UFC. He started with the promotion nearly 12 years ago at UFC 13 and holds notable wins over Guy Mezger, Wanderlei Silva, Vitor Belfort and Forrest Griffin.

UFC hall-of-famer, Coleman, picked up his first octagon win in 12 years in his last fight by defeating TUF 1 light-heavyweight runner-up Stephan Bonnar at UFC 100. Prior to the win, he made his long-awaited return to the octagon at UFC 93 in January, where he was defeated by Mauricio Rua. He previously competed in Pride prior to returning to the UFC and went 8-5 with the now-defunct promotion. Coleman first made his MMA debut at UFC 10 in July of 1996. 12 of his 16 career wins have come by stoppage and he holds notable wins over the likes of Don Frye, Dan Severn and Igor Vovchanchyn.
