A middleweight bout between Tom Lawlor and Aaron Simpson has been verbally agreed upon for UFC Fight Night 20 in January. News of the bout was first reported on the popular MMA forum, The Underground.
Lawlor is currently on a three fight winning streak, which includes wins in his first two UFC bouts over Kyle Kingsbury and most recently over CB Dollaway at UFC 100 in July. He earned the evening's "Submission of the Night" award and a $100,000 bonus for his win over Dollaway.
Prior to the winning streak, Lawlor suffered his lone career loss against fellow TUF 8 cast member Shane Primm via disqualification in March 2008. He sports a near perfect 6-1 MMA record, with all but one of those wins coming by stoppage.
Simpson has opened up his UFC campaign by scoring back-to-back first round TKO wins over Tim McKenzie at UFN 18 and Ed Herman at UFC 102 in August. Prior to entering the UFC, he defeated David Avellan in his only bout with the other ZUFFA-owned promotion, the WEC, in November of 2008.
The Arizona Combat Sports fighter has put together an undefeated 6-0 MMA record since making his professional debut in October 2007. Despite having a strong wrestling base, he has finished all six of his career wins by TKO or KO,
The yet unannounced UFC Fight Night 20 event is expected to take place on Jan. 11 in Virginia and the main card will air live on Spike TV.
