WEC and Versus have officially renewed their contract - and UFC fans have a reason to be happy... two reasons, actually.
In the renewed contract, it states that two UFC events must be shown on Versus in 2010. While Spike TV has always been the home of the UFC, Spike network officials are content with the news.
"We feel anything that helps expand the sport is good for Spike as we are the long-term home of the UFC, who are tremendous partners to work with," David Schwarz told MMAJunkie.com.
Currently, it is unknown which UFC events will air on the Versus network, however, because the contract states that two events should be shown over the twelve-month period, the events might not air until later in the year.
According to Schwarz, the UFC has had the option of airing up to four of their events on other networks, other than Spike TV. While the UFC has previously been in talks with ESPN and HBO, no deal has come out of their discussions.
The new WEC/Versus contract also stipulates that seven WEC events will be shown on Versus, and that Versus.com may stream one non-televised fight from each of their seven events. In 2010, Versus will also be putting out new episodes of "WEC WrekCAGE," the promotion's highlight show.
