Talented, undefeated welterweight prospect Tyron Woodley will take on hard-nosed veteran Zach Light in a welterweight bout that will likely be featured on the televised main card of the Strikeforce Challengers: "Kennedy vs. Cummings" event. Light's Agent, Ken Pavia, confirmed the news with MMA FanHouse.
Strikeforce Challengers: "Kennedy vs. Cummings" takes place on September 25 from the SpiritBank Event Center in Bixby, Oklahoma and the main card will air live on Showtime. The event will be headlined by a middleweight bout between division contender Tim Kennedy and prospect Zak Cummings.
Woodley, who recently re-signed with Strikeforce, defeated Sal Woods via first-round Brabo choke submission in his Strikeforce debut on the promotion's June 6 event. He is off to a 3-0, with all three wins being first-round submission stoppages. Woodley is a two-time All-American from the University of Missouri. He has made trips to Florida to train at the American Top Team headquarters and also out to California to train at the American Kickboxing Academy to train with the likes of Josh Koscheck, John Fitch, and Mike Swick.
Light (6-8) has lost three straight and he hasn't competed since suffering a first round knock out against Kajan Johnson at EFC 6: "Home Coming" last October. He has been keeping busy though as the head wrestling coach at the Wolfslair Academy in the United Kingdom, training the likes of Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Michael Bisping, Paul Kelly and Cheick Kongo. The UFC and WEC veteran has finished 4 of his 6 career wins and has suffered hard fought losses in his career to notables such as Pete Spratt, Jake Ellenberger and Toby Imada.
