UFC 101 is officially ready to go down as all fighters competing on tomorrow night's event made weight earlier in the day from the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pennslyvania, as broadcast live via FiveKnuckles.com.
UFC 101: "Declaration" will take place tomorrow night, August 8, at the same venue, and the event's main card will be televised on pay-per-view beginning at 10pm ET.
The event is headlined by a lightweight title bout between UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn and top contender, Kenny Florian. Penn, who came out to a mixed reaction from the crowd, weighed in at the lightweight limit of 155 lbs, while Florian also tipped the scales at the lightweight limit. The pair then engaged briefly in a intense nose-to-nose staredown.
Following their weigh-ins, both main event competitors shared a few words with weigh-in ceremony emcee Joe Rogan.
"This is my dream; this is what every fighter works for," said Florian. "I will perform tomorrow night for sure."
"I'm in great shape," Penn said. "I'm going to go out and do my best."
In the co-main event, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva once again moves up to the light-heavyweight division to take on former UFC light-heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin. The vocal reaction from the crowd for this fight seemed to overshadow that of the main event.
Both men tipped the scales at the light-heavyweight limit of 205 lbs, and the staredown between the two was just as intense, if not more so, then between Penn and Florian.
Other match-ups to be featured on the main card include a interesting middleweight bout between TUF 3 middleweight winner Kendall Grove and BJJ submission specialist, Ricardo Almeida. Lightweights Kurt Pellegrino and Josh Neer will also duke it out on the main card along with a welterweight bout between TUF 7 winner Amir Sadollah and former WEC fighter Johny Hendricks.
