UFC 102 competitors test clean
by Jacob Camargo on September 12, 2009

The Oregon State Athletic Commission recently revealed the drug test results for six competitors who fought at UFC 102.

The event took place on Aug. 29 from the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, OR, and was the UFC's first trip to the Pacific Northwest.

All drug tests came back clean and included the following fighters: UFC 102 main event fighters Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, as well as Todd Duffee, Evan Dunham, Chris Leben and Aaron Simpson.

According to the report, Leben was ordered to submit pre- and post-event samples. Last year, he tested positive for the steroid, Stanozolol, following his loss against Michael Bisping at UFC 89 in Oct. Leben was subsequently handed a nine-month suspension by the UFC.

Athletic commissions tend to randomly select individuals for testing, but typically test the main event fighters and fight night winners, as well as those who have failed tests in the past.

The tests screen for anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancers, as well as 'Drugs of Abuse', according to the OSAC.

In the UFC 102 main event, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira defeated Randy Couture in a thrilling three-round war. In the co-main event bout, Thiago Silva scored a first-round knockout win over Keith Jardine in a light-heavyweight feature.

Also featured on the main card, Nate Marquardt took home "knockout of the night" for his first-round KO win over Demian Maia. Jake Rosholt picked up "Submission of the night" for his third-round submission win over TUF 1 cast member Chris Leben, and Brandon Vera earned a unanimous decision win over TUF 8 competitor Krzysztof Soszynski in a light-heavyweight bout.

The UFC 102 event drew an estimated 16,088 spectators to the Rose Garden Arena in Portland for a $1.92 million gate, which is the fifth largest figure in Oregon combat-sports history.
