The Nevada State Athletic Commission today issued out 10 medical suspensions to fighters who competed on the UFC 106 fight card. The event took place on Nov. 21 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
From the list of UFC 106 fighters issued medical suspensions, only three of the 10 were victorious, including main event fighter Forrest Griffin as well as Paulo Thiago and George Sotiropoulos.
UFC 106 headliner Forrest Griffin, who scored a close split-decision win over Tito Ortiz in their rematch, could be facing a lengthy suspension (May 21, 2010) unless his right foot injury is cleared by a doctor. Surprisingly, Ortiz was not issued a medical suspension. Many felt he would have received one following his post-fight comments in which he indicated he came into the fight with a bulging disc in his neck and a cracked skull.
Four other UFC 106 fighters including Luiz Cane, Jason Dent, Brock Larson and Marcus Davis also face lengthy medical suspensions that require doctor's clearance. The injuries for the aforementioned four individuals range from broken noses to a possible orbital fracture and a knee injury. Once individuals get clearance, their suspensions are lifted and they are free to resume competing. If they aren't cleared by a doctor their suspensions will run until May 21, 2010.
