Paul Buentello vs. Stefan Struve
As I pointed out in the preview of this fight, it has very little chance of going the distance. Struve's length is hard to train for and difficult to deal with and his slick submissions are dangerous. He hasn't faced the level of competition that Buentello has and doesn't have the standup game to withstand a barrage from the Headhunter. Buentello's experience and overall toughness bring down the Skyscraper with an early KO.
Knucklehead Prediction: Paul Buentello by KO
Kenny Florian vs. Clay Guida
Guida's a tough customer with a boulder for a head. His takedowns and wrestling are solid. Florian has the clear advantage on their feet and if Guida does take him down KenFlo's jiu-jitsu won't allow the Carpenter to just nail him to the mat and win a decision. This should be a case of just not enough offense for Guida and enough of everything for Florian to earn the unanimous decision.
Knucklehead Prediction: Kenny Florian by unanimous decision
Jon Fitch vs. Mike Pierce
Pierce looked good against Brock Larson in a fight that saw Larson get cut by the UFC shortly thereafter. A good outing against a fighter like Fitch will put this guy on the map. The problem is that Larson and Fitch are two very different fighters and although Fitch has been winning the fights that he should win, he needs this win in an impressive fashion and I think he has the talent to do it. I'm going with Fitch by a choke of some kind, late first or early second round.
Knucklehead Prediction: Jon Fitch by submission
Frank Mir vs. Cheick Kongo
Hungry, hungry heavyweights looking to make their way toward the title shot talk should make for quite a fight. Kongo has the advantage standing and Mir has the advantage on the ground. Where the fight goes will have everything to do with the outcome. The deciding factor for me is that Mir's standup is better than Kongo's ground game. I see this fight going to the mat and Kongo finding his arm trapped in the clutches of a Mir submission.
Knucklehead Prediction: Frank Mir by submission
B.J. Penn vs. Diego Sanchez
Sanchez needs to come out and fight his fight and not let Penn dictate the pace. If he does that, he could present problems for the champ. I think we'll see moments of Diego putting up a great fight. He'll probably even hurt Penn at some point but I'm of the school that says Penn is the #1 lightweight in the world and will be until proven otherwise. Look for the Prodigy to capitalize on a late mistake and force Sanchez to tap.
Knucklehead Prediction: B.J. Penn by submission
