UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva Main Card Preview
by Mike Williams on January 02, 2010

After some juggling and numerous card changes, the 108 card is finally set. While there may not be an abundance of marquee names you can still expect a great night of fights at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena, many of which will have an impact on title pictures in the near future. The ever-changing lineup looks like this:

Junior dos Santos vs. Gilbert Yvel

dos Santos has been impressive in the UFC. Since his knockout of the night debut performance over Fabricio Werdum, the 25 year old Brazilian has also TKO'd Stefan Struve and Mirko Filipovic. JDS is 9-1 overall and has yet to go the distance in a fight. His relative inexperience could be a factor when he squares off against the 36-13 Yvel who will be making his UFC debut. Yvel was on a seven fight winning streak before losing to Josh Barnett at Affliction: Banned last January. He has since beaten Pedro Rizzo and will be looking to make it two in a row against dos Santos.

Jim Miller vs. Duane Ludwig

Miller is probably one of the more underrated fighters in all of mma. Fighting in the stacked lightweight division can make a tremendous fighter seem pretty average but Miller is as tough as they come. At 14-2, his only losses have come at the hands of guys who are at the top of the division in Gray Maynard and fellow New Jersey competitor Frankie Edgar, whom he now often trains with. His background is primarily in wrestling but he does have nine wins by submission and can definitely strike, a talent he'll need in a fight with Ludwig. "Bang" Ludwig is 19-9 overall, with 10 wins by (T)KO. In his last UFC appearance he knocked out Jonathan Goulet at Ultimate Fight Night 3 in an official time of 11 seconds, although the time-keeper's clock ran long and it was actually closer to 5 seconds. He also holds notable wins over Genki Sudo and former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver.

Joe Lauzon vs. Sam Stout

Lauzon doesn't let fights go to the judges. He's 18-4 without a single decision on his record. 14 of those 18 wins came by submission, most recently a 2nd round armbar over Jeremy Stephens. "J-Lau" has won 8 of his last 9, the only defeat coming from top 5 lightweight Kenny Florian. He's also beaten such fighters as Jens Pulver and Mike Brown. Stout (14-5-1) is a three-time recipient of the UFC's Fight of the Night bonus. He's been a Canadian Muay Thai champion and North American Kickboxing and Muay Thai champion. "Hands of Stone" lives up to his nickname with eight KO wins and could also be known as "Chin of Stone" as he has taken some huge shots and never been knocked out himself.

Dustin Hazelett vs. Paul Daley

Hazelett earned himself bonuses in his last two fights, most recently a submission of the night win over Tamdan McCrory with a nice reverse armbar and a fight of the night the bout previous to that against a Josh Burkman. Although he hasn't fought in over a year, a fighter with the jiu-jitsu skills of Hazelett is less likely to experience ring rust because of the years of accumulative training at his craft. He's submitted 9 opponents in his 12 victories and he'll definitely be looking to get this fight to the ground against a standup...
