UFC 108 medical suspensions
by Jacob Camargo on January 04, 2010

The Nevada State Athletic Commission today issued out seven medical suspensions to fighters who competed on the UFC 108 fight card. The event took place this past Saturday on Jan. 2 from The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

From the list of UFC 108 fighters issued medical suspensions, only two were victorious; those being including main card fighter Sam Stout and preliminary card fighter Mark Munoz.

Surprisingly, main event fighters Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva were not issued medical suspensions; this despite numerous reports that Evans entered the bout with a hamstring injury and Silva went into the fight with a back injury.

UFC 108 co-headliner Dustin Hazelett, who suffered a brutal first-round knockout loss at the heavy hands of British fighter Paul Daley, could be facing a lengthy suspension (July 2, 2010) unless his right orbital blowout/nasal fracture is cleared by a ENT doctor.

Mark Munoz also faces a lengthy medical suspension that requires a doctor's clearance. He suffered a right hand/wrist injury during his impressive first-round submission-by-punches win over Ryan Jensen. Once Munoz gets clearance, his suspensions will lifted and he'll be free to resume competing. If he is not cleared by a doctor his suspension will run until July 2, 2010.

Here is the complete list of the NSAC's UFC 108 medical suspensions:

Dustin Hazelett: Suspended until July 2 due to right orbital blowout and nasal fractures but a ENT doctor can clear him to return sooner; No contest until at least March 4 with no contact allowed until Feb. 2.

Sam Stout: Suspended until Feb. 2 with no contact allowed until Jan. 23 due to left forehead laceration

Gilbert Yvel: Suspended until Feb. 2 with no contact allowed until Jan. 23

Jacob Volkmann: Suspended until Feb. 2 with no contact allowed until Jan. 23

Mark Munoz: Suspended until July 2 but can return earlier if cleared by an orthopedic doctor after x-raying right hand, wrist and elbow

Ryan Jensen: Suspended until Jan. 23 with no contact allowed until Jan. 16

Mike Pyle: Suspended until Feb. 2 with no contact allowed until Jan. 23
