MMA fans love to watch free fights, and the ratings for Spike TV's "prelim specials" have certainly supported that theory. The UFC and Spike TV will join forces once again to broadcast two live fights on the network, leading into UFC 116.
Brendan Schaub vs. Chris Tuchscherer and Kendall Grove vs. Goran Reljic have been announced to air live on Spike TV on July 3rd.
Schaub (5-1) will look to continue his momentum coming off of an emphatic 47-second TKO over opponent Chase Gormley in March. Schaub's only other UFC bout came against Roy Nelson at the "Ultimate Fighter Finale", in which he lost via KO last December.
Tuchscherer (18-2), a Division II All-American wrestler, is 1-1 in the UFC. His lone victory was a majority decision over Tim Hague at UFC 109. Tuchscherer's debut came at UFC 102 in which he suffered an unfortunate loss at the hands of Gabriel Gonzaga. After an illegal kick, Tuchscherer tried to valiantly continue the fight. Although still dazed and visibly shaken by the kick, Gonzaga proceeded to dispose of him by KO shortly thereafter.
Kendall Grove (11-7, 6-4 UFC) has had mixed results since his season three victory on "TUF". Grove started off his UFC career in impressive fashion with victories over veterans Ed Herman, Chris Price and Alan Belcher. However, "Da Spyder" has found winning tough to come by lately, most recently dropping a TKO loss to wrestling ace Mark Munoz at UFC 112.
Goran Reljic (8-1) returns to the octagon after a unanimous decision loss to C.B. Dalloway back in February, his first fight in almost two years due to injuries. The debut for the Croatian born fighter came back at UFC 84, where he defeated Wilson Gouveia and earned himself a "fight of the night" bonus.
UFC 116 is headlined by Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin for the unification of the heavyweight championship.
