More free UFC fights are coming to Spike TV as all lights are green for a "UFC Prelims" special to air for UFC 119.
The hour-long telecast will take place on September 25 and will likely feature TUF 10 alum Matt Mitrione vs. Joey Beltran, and TUF 7 alum C.B. Dollaway vs. Joe Doerksen.
While no official statement has been made about the Spike TV show, MMAJunkie.com revealed that sources close to the event have chosen to put the fights on the air. An official announcement is expected soon.
As in previous prelims specials, if the two programmed bouts wrap up before the 60 minutes, Spike TV will air other preliminary fights by tape-delay. These fights have the potential of being Mark Hunt vs. Sean McCorkle, TJ Grant vs. Julio Paulino, or other yet-to-be announced prelim fights.
Mitrione (2-0 UFC, MMA), a.k.a. "Meathead," amazed many when he soundly defeated Kimbo Slice in his last outing to the Octagon at UFC 113. Prior to that win, the former NFL player knocked out Marcus Jones 10 seconds into the second round of their TUF 10 Finale encounter.
Beltran (2-0 UFC, 12-3 MMA) will have more overall match experience than Mitrione come their UFC 119 bout, but they both are on a two-fight winning streak in their only two UFC fights. In Beltran's two trips into the Octagon, he picked up wins over Rolles Gracie at UFC 109 and Tim Hague at UFC 113.
Dollaway (4-2 UFC, 10-2 UFC) lost his Octagon debut against Amir Sadollah at season seven's TUF Finale, but he has picked up four wins since then, including a Submission of the Night bonus against Jesse Taylor in 2008. His only other loss aside from Sadollah was to TUF 8's Tom Lawlor. Dollaway's most recent win came over Goran Reljic at UFC 110.
Doerksen (2-5 UFC, 45-12 MMA) steps into the Octagon live on Spike with the most experience under his belt. The Canadian middleweight made his debut in the UFC with a loss at the hands of Joe Riggs in 2004. Since then, he has competed off and on with the organization, picking up a win over Patrick Cote at UFC 52 and Tom Lawlor at UFC 113.
UFC 119 will be headlined by a rematch between Frank Mir vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and co-headlined by Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Ryan Bader. Matt Serra vs. Chris Lytle and Melvin Guillard vs. Jeremy Stephens are also set to appear on the main card of the event.
