UFC 122 recap
by FiveKnuckles.com Staff on November 14, 2010

Yushin Okami worked over highly regarded middleweight contender Nate Marquardt for three solid rounds last night in Oberhausen, Germany en route to a unanimous decision victory and a shot at the UFC middleweight title.

Okami (26-5), will next take on either current champion Anderson Silva or Vitor Belfort after those two square off at UFC 126 in February. The 29-year-old Japanese fighter will enter his first UFC title fight riding a three-fight winning streak, and has gone an impressive 10-2 since coming over to the organization in 2006.

Also of note, hometown hero Dennis Siver finished TUF 9 runner-up Andre Winner in the first round of the evening's makeshift co-main event after Alessio Sakara was forced off of the card due to flu-like symptoms just hours before the event.

Other main card victors include TUF 7 champion Amir Sadollah, Krzysztof Soszynski and Duane Ludwig.

 |  (15) Comments Marker28: Okami is getting ripped off, Vitor didn't earn a shot. mike5k: Belfort didn't earn the shot but Okami blew an earlier opportunity when he lost to Franklin. He then was going to get a shot after 2 wins against guys who weren't very good at the time but got injured. Then he got injured again and backed out of a fight with Dan Miller which would have gotten him closer to another shot. He's certainly won more UFC middleweight fights than Belfort has, considering Belfort has won exactly none, but the pickings are slim in the division. I would have given the shot to Belfort too. The Hitman: Belfort deserves it before Okami. I think he poses more of a threat to Anderson anyway. snuff: He UDed marquardt and SDed munoz.. hmmmm.. that must mean.. naah. im just busting your balls. :P D_V: I think Vitor deserves the shot. He's a two division champion going for his third divisional title. It's historic. The UFC is retarded, flat out, retarded to not be marketing him as the guy that could be the first ever three division champion in MMA history. It should be all over the Joe Rogan talking point agenda and Dana should not be shutting his mouth about it. He did beat the last champion at 185 before Silva too, and no matter what anybody says, he has looked better than ever in his last two fights and a guy that lost fights when he went through what Vitor went through deserves a pass for the shitty middle of his career. He is a good threat for Anderson. That and Anderson is not a draw in any way and Vitor is actually an original in the UFC. It should be seen as him coming home. A redemption story and the champion in three separate weight classes story needs to be told as well. horizontalcracker: I don't even care if Belfort deserves the shot or not, it's a far more intriguing match-up.
