UFC 126: Silva vs. Belfort preview
by Mike Williams on February 04, 2011

UFC 126: Silva vs. Belfort is a card that's sprinkled with some diverse ingredients;  a title fight between two of the best fighters in the history of the sport,  what's expected to be a brawl between two of the most popular UFC "golden boys" ever, and a battle between two of the most-hyped light-heavyweight prospects in years.

The Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, it's all going down on pay per view along with the UFC debuts of WEC transfers, Miguel Torres and Antonio Banuelos. In addition to all of that are three undercard fights that can be viewed for free, two on Spike TV and one on Facebook.

On Spike, former WEC superstar "Cowboy" Donald Cerrone takes on UFC veteran tough guy Paul Kelly and undefeated Team Alpha Male standout Chad Mendes will look to get one step closer to a featherweight title shot as he squares off against Michihiro Omigawa, who's returning to the UFC octagon for the first time in over three years.

On Facebook will be the Zuffa debut of K-1 veteran Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto will be a tough one as he'll battle with Demetrious Johnson, who's won back to back fights against solid WEC competition.

The Main Card

Miguel Torres vs. Antonio Banuelos

It wasn't long ago that Miguel Torres was plastered on virtually every pound for pound on the planet. This guy was an amazing 37-1 less than two years ago before losing consecutive fights to Brian Bowles and Joseph Benavidez, respectively. He's since come back strong with a submission win over Charlie Valencia and is probably being counted out by many a bit prematurely. A win over Banuelos will put him one step closer to his goal of a shot at returning to bantamweight gold.

Banuelos will go down in history as having the most WEC fights (14) ever. His first fight in the promotion dates back to 2002 at WEC 5. He finished his WEC career at 9-5 but the California native is 18-6 overall. Training at The Pit with John Hackleman, Banuelos is no stranger to high level training partners and competition.

Jon Jones vs. Ryan Bader

This is a collision between two rising stars. Jones has virtually dismantled every opponent he's faced. Only two of his twelve fights have gone to decision and they were his first two fights in the UFC. He finished his third in the second round and now hasn't been out of the first for three in a row. The lone blemish on his 11-1 record was a disqualification to Matt Hammill where Jones was smashing him with elbows and some went to the illegal "12:00-6:00" angle. "Bones" has an incredible clinch and throw game and drops some of the most vicious elbows in the sport today. His striking is unorthodox and high-risk but to this point it's also been dynamic and effective.

Bader is one of the few fighters in the division that Jones won't be able to just over power with raw strength. The former Ultimate Fighter winner is a powerhouse with explosive takedowns and heavy hands. He's undefeated at 12-0 with five of those fights being in the UFC. His most recent wins are a third round KO over Keith Jardine and a unanimous decision over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. If Bader is able to improve his record to 13-0 here he'll more than likely be only a win or two away from...
