UFC 131 continues to take shape as two lightweight contests are announced
by Tim Groves on March 14, 2011

Donald Cerrone (14-3 1 NC) vs. Mac Danzig has been agreed to for UFC 131, according to MMAJunkie.com.

MMAJunkie.com also confirmed that Sam Stout (16-6-1) vs. Yves Edwards (40-16-1) is in the works for the event.

UFC 131 will take place in Vancouver, Canada on June 11th.

It was not announced whether either bout will air on the pay-per-view portion, but both are almost guaranteed to at least be shown via Spike TV or Facebook.

Mac Danzig took to calling out Cerrone recently via Twitter.

"So all you have to do to secure a fight you haven't earned is wear a silly hate, call yourself 'Cowboy' and talk trash?" Danzig posted on the social website.

Now it seems as the two will settle their dispute in the Octagon.

Cerrone comes into the fight on a three fight win streak and an impressive UFC debut. Cowboy dispatched of Paul Kelly at UFC 126 via submission in the second frame. The outspoken Cerrone has drawn a ton of fan interest thanks to his exciting fights and pre-fight banter.

After being dangerously close to being cut, Danzig responded beautifully with a knockout over Joe Stevenson at UFC 124. It was the Ultimate Fighter winner's second win in his past six fights. A win over Cerrone would put Danzig right back in the thick of the 155 pound division.

The other two scheduled lightweights have a lot to prove.

Canadian Sam Stout is desperately in need of a finish, as his last seven fights have ended via decision. Stout most recently walked away with a very controversial split decision over Paul Taylor at UFC 121. Despite his lack of finishing power, fans seem to be enamored with Stout and his desire to stand and trade with all of his opponents.

Yves Edwards, a 14-year veteran, was brought back into the UFC as an injury replacement against John Gunderson at UFC Fight Night 22. Edwards has made the most of his second stint with the promotion, reeling off two straight victories with the organization. The self-proclaimed Thug Jitsu master recently stopped Cody McKenzie via submission at UFC Fight Night 23.

UFC 131 will be headlined by a heavyweight contenders fight between Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos. The winner will be given the first shot at newly crowned champion Cain Velasquez.

 |  (11) Comments Keith Mondaca: I think Cerrone takes it. I also don't think Danzig should be talking down to anyone, especially since Cerrone's run in the WEC was more impressive than Danzig's current run in the UFC. Stout should take fight, but you can never count Edwards out. Nice that two solid matchups have been added. flyangler: Cowboy is going to KO him in the first, and look great doing it. I see Donald building a head of steam here and moving up the ladder a bit in 2011. GO HARD: damnit i like Danzig.. q: / should be a really good fight tho. Stout vs Edwards is a tough one. Mickey knox: Nice, 131 is getting better and better. War Cowboy!! Wandering_Minstrel: Cowboy is gonna wreck shop. GO HARD: you can never count danzig out. q: / he like to save the lifes of any living creature. and for that he always has my support. but i rocks with cerrone.. q: / donald by 2nd round TKO due to knees
