UFC 132: "Cruz vs. Faber 2" preview and predictions.
by Mike Williams on July 01, 2011

The MGM Grand Garden Arena will play host to the UFC main event debut of "The California Kid" Urijah Faber as he challenges Dominick Cruz for the bantamweight title. These two guys don't like each other and as the event draws nearer and the talking continues it's looking more and more like it's going to be an all-out war. Speaking of wars, Pride FC veteran Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva will be taking on Chris "The Crippler" Leben in a fight that's anticipated to a stand-up brawl. Former UFC light-heavyweight champ Tito Ortiz will look to revive his career as he takes on wrestling powerhouse Ryan Bader. Rounding out the main card are fast-paced fights between welterweights Carlos Condit and Dong Hyun Kim and 155 pounders Dennis Siver and Matt Wiman. Let's break down the action.

Dennis Siver vs. Matt Wiman

Siver is a former German kickboxing champion. He's a very powerful lightweight with speed and agility to match. Like many kickboxers, "The Menace" needed a lot of work on his ground game earlier in his career and he's improved that drastically. The great solution for guys who don't want to get caught in submissions is to keep the fight standing and Siver did just that in his last fight vs. George Sotiropoulos. Siver used strength, speed and tremendous balance to avert a bunch of takedowns en route to the unanimous decision upset victory.

Wiman is another fighter who seems to be improving lately. He's had his hand raised after 3 straight and has looked impressive, especially in his most recent bout vs. a very game Cole Miller. "Handsome" is 7-2 in his last nine and the losses were fight of the night decisions to Jim Miller and Sam Stout, respectively. The Stout fight was amazing to watch and many fans felt as though Wiman was robbed by the decision.

Breakdown and prediction;  Sotiropoulos has a great ground game but his takedowns aren't what most people would consider explosive. Wiman has a strong wrestling base with quick, powerful shots. If he can get it to the ground he should be able to deliver enough damage to earn a decision. The key word there is "if."  This will be Siver's twelfth fight in the UFC and he appears to be one of the guys on the lower half of the lightweight ladder that's been motivated to keep his job after the arrival of the WEC fighters. I'm taking Siver's takedown defense and his kickboxing to a unanimous decision.

Carlos Condit vs. Dong Hyun Kim

In the last five years, Condit has lost exactly one fight. That lone loss was an incredible battle with Martin Kampmann that ended in a split decision. He has since won a split decision over Jake Ellenberger, a fight of the night TKO over Rory MacDonald, and a knockout of the night KO over Dan Hardy. "The Natural Born Killer" is 26-5 as a pro and has never been knocked out. The stats on his 26 victories are a fan's dream- 13 knockouts, 12 submissions, and 1 decision. Condit finishes fights, period, and he does so in spectacular fashion.

Kim is a rare and versatile talent. His primary discipline would be considered judo but his game is well-versed in jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, and wrestling as well as Sambo. He's a powerful and balanced fighter who uses tremendous leverage to dictate where the fight goes or doesn't go. At 14-0-1 it's...
