UFC Prelims return to Spike TV at UFC 128 with Vemola/Cane and Barboza/Njokuani
by Tim Groves on February 22, 2011

UPDATE: Karlos Vemola has been forced out of the contest against Luiz Cane. Eliot Marshall has agreed to step in as his replacement. The Cane/Marshall bout will still be shown on the Spike broadcast.

UFC Prelims will be returning to Spike TV on March 19th with a light heavyweight bout between Karlos Vemola and Luiz Cane and a lightweight battle between Edson Barboza and Anthony Njokuani.

Spike TV elected to skip their normal preliminary special for UFC 127. The UFC has announced that Ion will carry the preliminary bouts instead

Karlos Vemola (8-1) will enter the bout after he destroyed Seth Petruzelli at UFC 122 in a mere 3:46 into round one. In his UFC debut he suffered his first professional defeat at heavyweight to Jon Madsen. After the fight, the Czech fighter dropped down to 205.

His opponent, Luiz Cane (10-3, 1 NC), comes into the fight on a two fight losing streak. After posting three straight impressive victories, the Brazilian was matched up with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Cane suffered a brutal knockout loss in the fight. He suffered his second straight defeat against Cyrille Diabate at UFC 120. Another loss will probably mean the end for his UFC career.

Edson Barboza (7-0) enters the bout with an undefeated record. The muay thai specialist has shown deadly kicks during his pro career, including his UFC debut when he defeated Mike Lullo via leg kicks. The Brazilian is already being talked about as the next big thing at 155.

The Nigerian Anthony Njokuani (13-4, 1 NC) put up a decent 4-3 record inside the WEC, including one of the most brutal knockouts in his defeat of Chris Horodecki. Njokuani has shown some serious deficiencies on the ground, but that shouldn't come into play against Barboza.

UFC 128 features a light heavyweight title bout between Mauricio Rua and Jon Jones.

Wandering_Minstrel: Vemola is a beast. This is not a good fight for Cane. Barboza/Njokuani will be an absolute war. GO HARD: just read that vemola is out with injury. flyangler: Yeah that sucks, no way they'll get a replacement that fast. Plenty of time, I was thinking the fight was this weekend.
